Supermoto in 2010

Supermoto in 2010 is seeing some exciting changes at the national level while the regional level remains strong and shows great signs of further growth.

On the national level, the AMA/DMG regime is out and a new organization has emerged from the ashes. Supermoto Nation or SMN has stepped up to take control of professional supermoto racing. The SMN group is headed up by Ed Kuhlenkamp, co-owner of Pit Pass Radio and Build Momentum.

The following is from the SMN website, "Supermoto Nation is a grass roots movement created to tap into the raw energy of the sport of supermoto. The name represents the vision of creating a nation of supermoto racers, riders and fans who are passionate about their sport. The people of Supermoto Nation are committed, focused and willing to do what it takes to build and elevate supermoto. Our goal is simple – grow the Supermoto Nation and expand the reach of this amazing form of motorcycling. The Supermoto Nation website encompasses all aspects of supermoto - from racing and riding, to the bikes and accessories to supermoto schools and clubs. All of these elements contribute to make a stronger Supermoto Nation. So whether you race, ride or are a fan of Supermoto, welcome to the Supermoto Nation."

Unlike the AMA/DMG group, SMN's sole focus is professional supermoto racing in North America. Gone are the days of being the third wheel, the bastard stepchild that nobody cares about. Now the focus is on us, the professional supermoto racers and teams. Now is the time for all of us to pull together as a family and give Mr. Kulenkamp and SMN all of our support and assistance.

It's our turn to make things happen for the sport. SMN is providing the platform, but we need to help with the leg work. If you truly love the sport of supermoto, then that should be something you are more than willing to do. Like any other series, to promote a top notch series, you need sponsors. Many of us in the sport have sponsors that back us as athletes. We all have contacts at many of the industries top companies, call or email your contacts and tell them about SMN. All the information you need is on the website,  from the basic mission statement to Ed's contact information.

The time for holding our hands out to the promoters and saying "I want this and I want that" is over. WE need to make this happen ourselves for ourselves.

In closing, I would like to thank a few people for their continuing hard work they have put in over the years promoting this great sport:

Tony Murray and Sonja Lifsey of ESMRA. In a matter of a few short years they have grown their series from an eight round series to a fifteen round series. They are also the founders of the ENAC, with events that span from Pennsylvania all the way to Quebec, Canada.

Brok McAllister of SupermotoUSA. Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting Brok, I have heard only great things about him and his organization.

Dennis Anderson of SupermotoOnline.com. Dennis continues to bring us news about our great sport and press releases from all of the various promoters and race teams in North America and beyond. This is not a paying job for him which makes his dedication that much more remarkable.

And finally I would like to thank the following promoters for keeping our great sport alive across North America; 5280Supermoto, MI Supermoto, Florida Supermoto, 408Racing, Supermoto Quebec
and RPM Supermoto.
